Solar System for Kids: Fun Facts & Activities
The Solar System is like a big space family! At the center is the Sun, a huge, hot ball of fire that gives light, warmth, and energy. All the planets, moons, and even tiny asteroids move around the Sun.
Our Solar System lives in a galaxy called the Milky Way, which is full of stars, planets, and other exciting things. Today, we are going to visit all the planets and learn fun facts about them!
Venus
Venus is the second planet from the Sun and is almost the same size as Earth. It is covered in thick yellow clouds, making it very bright and visible in the sky — that’s why it’s called the Evening Star.
Science concept
Venus is the hottest planet in our Solar System. Its thick clouds trap heat, creating a greenhouse effect.

Fun fact
A day on Venus is longer than a year - it takes 243 Earth days to spin once, but only 225 Earth days to go around the Sun!
Parent tip
Talk about blankets keeping you warm at night, then compare Venus’ clouds to a giant space blanket trapping heat
Ask your child: “If we visited Venus, what would we wear - a coat or sunscreen?”
Draw Venus (a yellow Planet) and clouds around a yellow planet to show the thick atmosphere.
